The number behind the Legend


October 1985, number 168 was called to the starting line, and with that the journey had begun. Firstly let me explain 168. In New Zealand when you first register with the National Federation you are issued with a racing number. You keep the same number your entire skating career. Your number is issued at random therefore the person becomes the number, and I became 168.

Of course I began on quad roller skates. I raced all around New Zealand, eventually I began winning and I loved that feeling. From a young age I knew that equipment was essential to success, anytime I wasn’t training my body to go faster, I was thinking about how I could make my skates faster…
